Textual Analysis Paper Workshops

Note that this paper is not a group assignment; you must work ALONE while studying and writing your thesis, outline, and paper. No collaboration outside of the writing workshops is permitted; if you do collaborate (outside of the assigned workshops and perhaps just watching the film together), you risk plagiarism, possible failure on the assignment, and/or failure of the course. (So don't do that.)

Paper Workshop 1:

1) Preparation: on the date listed on our schedule, submit two printed copies of your thesis paragraph and outline, one to Dr. Bonner and the other to your workshop partner (listed on the class roll).

2) Read, annotate, & edit your workshop partner's thesis & outline. Your job is to offer suggestions for how to make the thesis clearer, how to make the writing & grammar clearer, and how to best support that thesis with examples from the film's formal techniques.

3) Exchange your written feedback on your partner's outline with your partner during Workshop 1 in class.

4) A photocopy of your written comments on your partner's outline is also due to Dr. Bonner at the beginning of class.

Your comments and your outline will be graded for their effort and thoroughness.

Paper Workshop 2:

1) Exchange your Textual Analysis Paper with your assigned partner (listed on the class roll) via email by the date on the schedule. This paper MUST incorporate the revisions and suggestions from the last draft of your thesis/outline. Send an email copy of this document to Dr. Bonner and the TA as a Word attachment by the date on the schedule too.

2) Print out, read, annotate, & edit your partner's paper before Workshop 2, providing at least 3 substantive suggestions to improve the paper in addition to offering detailed comments on the paper's C, MGS, and/or O.

3) Type up and email to Dr. Bonner and the TA (NOT to your partner) the 3 substantive suggestions that you proposed for your partner's paper before the date on the schedule. (More comments are welcome; as always, your comments and your effort on the assignment will be graded.)

4) Bring two hard copies of these suggestions: one to submit to Dr. Bonner and one for your partner at the beginning of Workshop 2.
**Also bring with you to Workshop 2 your partner's suggestions from Workshop 1.

Your comments and your paper draft will be graded for their effort and thoroughness.
