Middle Level Education Admission Requirements
In order to be considered for admission into the Middle Grades Education Program at Clayton State University the following criteria must be met:
- Admission to Clayton State University (transfer students who meet the criteria below may simultaneously submit applications for the College and the Middle Grades Education Program-two separate applications).
- Meet with Department of Teacher Education advisor.
- Completion of at least 45 semester hours of college credit.
- See Middle Level Education Advisement worksheet.
- Grades of A, B, C, or K (clep) in all attempted applicable Area A-F courses.
- An Institutional Standing GPA of 2.50 is used to determine minimum eligibility for admission into the B.A. in Middle Level Education Program.
- A Teacher Education Program GPA of 2.50 based upon Areas A-F coursework is also used to determine eligibility for admission.
- Teacher Education writing assessment with a minimum writing profile (currently 555-555-4) Clayton State University Writing Guidelines can be found at. http://a-s.clayton.edu/langlit/guidelines/handbook.html.
- Passing both the reading and writing portions of the Regent's Testing Program.
- Documentation of awareness/exposure to the teaching profession ( for example, EDUC 2110 at Clayton State University).
- Attendance of a Teacher Education information session (conducted once per semester on the Clayton State University campus). See news – events for dates.
- Minimum competence in computers (required of all CSU students).
- Passage of all sections of the G.A.C.E. Basic Skills Assessment
- A one-page essay of why you want to be a middle school (grades 4-8) teacher.
- A background check.
