Liberal Education & America's Promise
"It is not so very important for a person to learn facts. For that he does not really need a college. He can learn them from books. The value of an education in a liberal arts college is not the learning of many facts, but the training of the mind to think something that cannot be learned from textbooks."
— Albert Einstein

What We Do Here
I am the Dean of the College of Arts & Sciences and our goal is to transform the lives of our students and to improve the world in which they will inhabit. The College of Arts & Sciences is the heart of higher education and the gateway to responsible citizenship and careers. We provide core curriculum classes with a liberal arts and science base, which serves as a foundation for success beyond the college years. Here students may choose from 23 undergraduate majors, 26 undergraduate minors, 6 associate degrees and certificates, and 7 different graduate degrees. We also offer a variety of pre-professional programs for students preparing for admission to medical and dental schools or pursuing advance degrees in pharmacy, law, or veterinary medicine. Our course offerings range, alphabetically, from African American Studies and Aviation Administration to Spanish, Theater, and Women’s Studies. In between are Corporate Communication, Film Production, Homeland Security/Emergency Management, Legal Studies, as well as Middle and Secondary education in English, Biology or History.
What You Get From Us
For students enrolled in these programs, the investments of time, talent and treasure last a lifetime. In financial terms, students are buying a “bond with dividends” that continues to appreciate in value throughout their careers. We are a vibrant and healthy College and the oldest and largest among the four Colleges at this University. Our College consists of nearly 250 faculty and staff members. Our professors take a long-term approach in designing curriculum and research agendas, and our staff treat students like they want and deserve to be treated. Our College boasts human capital that is the envy of many other industries. Our intellectual property is developed and enhanced by experts in teaching, research and service. While others protect their property with patents and trademarks, we collaborate with others to develop it further and to make it sharper.
