FT-IR Instructions
· Start the Omnic Program, if not already started

· Choose ID3-ATR ZeSn as the connected device. (not the ID3-ATR Ge)
·
Maximize the Omnic window 
· Clean off the sensor.
· Loosen the screw top and swing the arm backwards to the right to expose the sensor.
· Apply methylene chloride or methanol to a kimwipe. Rub both sides of the sensor (top of plate, and bottom of arm).

· Allow to dry completely, and return swing arm to the forward position.

2. Start a Test
· Analyze the background spectrum by pressing “Col Bkg”. Press OK.

· When the background scan completes, choose not to the data to window 1.

· Reopen the arm, place a drop of your sample on the sensor, and return the arm.
· Name the spectrum with the last names of the partners, the lab, and the sample
o IE partner1_partner2_lab3_cyclohexanol
· Analyze the sample by clicking on “Col Smp”

· Wait for analyzation to comlete. Once finished, add this sample to window 1

· Find the peaks from the sample by clicking on “Find Pks”

· All peaks below the horizontal bar are labelled, so make sure you move it so that all of the peaks in your sample are labelled.
o To move the bar just click anywhere near the height that you would like it to be moved to, you could also slide the bar from its current location
o Be sure to replace the original spectrum, do not add a new one to window 1

· Resize the viewing area of the graph to maximize the size, be sure not to lose any of the labels for your peaks (they will disappear if you make the graph too big)

· The left set of arrows adjust the width of the viewable area.

· Save your spectrum by clicking on “ FileàSave as”, not “Save

· Double-click on the folder named “Hornbuckle2411L”
o Type the name of your file in the box, and name it like you did earlier
§ For example, Partner1_partner2_lab2_cyclohexanol
o In the dropbox below the name you just typed in, change the save as file type to .TIF
·
E-mail the file to your self by opening your
CSU e-mail via Swan and attaching the file your just made,
which is located on the DesktopàHornbuckle2411Là”yourfilename”.TIF
