Acoustical Society of America | Stephen Burnet |
| Since its organization in 1929, the Society has grown steadily in membership and stature. At this time nearly 7000 men and women who work in acoustics throughout the U.S. and abroad belong to this prestigious Society. A variety of fields related to sound are represented. This diversity, along with the opportunities provided for the exchange of knowledge and points of view, has become one of the Society's unique and strongest assets. From the beginning, the Acoustical Society has sought to serve the widespread interests of its members and the acoustics community in all branches of acoustics, both theoretical and applied. The Society is primarily a voluntary organization and attracts the interest, commitment, and service of a large number of professionals. Their contributions in the formation, guidance, administration, and development of the ASA
are largely responsible for its world-wide preeminence
in the field of acoustics. Suite 1NO1 2 Huntington Quadrangle Melville, New York 11747-4502 |

American Society of Mammalogists | Stephen Burnett |
| Chris Kodani | ||
| The American Society of Mammalogists (ASM) was established in 1919 for the purpose of promoting interest in the study of mammals. In addition to being among the most charismatic of animals, mammals are important in many disciplines from paleontology to ecology and evolution. We, of course, are mammals and thus are in the interesting position of studying ourselves in quest of a greater understanding of the role of mammals in the natural world. The ASM is currently composed of over 4,500 members, many of whom are professional scientists. Members of the Society have always had a strong interest in the public good, and this is reflected in their involvement in providing information for public policy, resources management, conservation, and education. The Society hosts annual meetings and maintains several publications. The flagship publication is the Journal of Mammalogy, a quarterly journal that accepts submissions on all aspects of mammalogy. The ASM also publishes
Mammalian Species (accounts of individual species), and Special Publications, books that pertain to specific taxa or topics, and we maintain a mammal images library which contains many exceptional photographs of mammals. 810 East 10th Street, P.O. National Center for Science Education | Harold Banke |
| Stephen Burnett | ||
| Samantha R. Fowler | ||
| The National Center for Science Education is a nonprofit, tax-exempt membership organization working to defend the teaching of evolution against sectarian attack. We are a nationally-recognized clearinghouse for information and advice to keep evolution in the science classroom and "scientific creationism" out. While there are organizations that oppose "scientific creationism" as part of their general goals (such as good science education, or separation of church and state), NCSE is the only national organization that specializes in this issue. When teachers, parents, school boards, the press and others need information and help, they turn to NCSE. While most of NCSE's work involves defending evolution against attacks, we also work to increase public understanding of evolution and science "as a way of knowing." We also have programs to help teachers who want to improve their teaching of evolution. Here you'll find information and resources for all these activities. 420 40th Street Suite 2 Oakland, CA 94609-2509 Phone: (510) 601-7203 Fax: (510) 601-7204 E-mail: ncseoffice@ncseweb.org |
