Obtaining departmental approval to enroll in the online versions of BIOL 1111 and BIOL 1112

Criteria for departmental approval

Enrollment in the on-line Introductory Biology sequence requires departmental approval. Approval will be granted to students who meet the following two (2) criteria:

• Have completed at least 30 semester credit hours (or 45 quarter credit hours) of college courses.
• Have a grade point average of 2.50 or greater

BIOL 1111L the laboratory associated with BIOL 1111 is a corequisite. The laboratory is NOT offered on-line. Select any section of BIOL 1111L offered on campus.

Instructions for students who meet the approval criteria

If you meet the criteria listed above, you must fill out the Natural Sciences Online Course Approval Form. Return this form to the administrative assistant for the Department of Natural Sciences either in person or as an e-mail attachment to request enrollment:

• in person: bring the approval form to Room A28 of Faculty Hall.
• by e-mail attachment: complete the approval form (Microsoft Word^TM file) and attach it to an e-mail message to JenniferEason@clayton.edu.

If you are unsure of your number of credit hours or your grade point average, use the DUCK to review your personal record.

Instructions for students who do not meet the approval criteria

Students who do not meet the criteria listed above may still be enrolled in the course, but must complete and sign the Natural Sciences Online Course Waiver Form. You may turn in your waiver statement in person or by mail:

• in person: bring the waiver statement to Room A28 of Faculty Hall.
• by email: send the completed waiver statement to:

Upon receipt of the waiver you may be enrolled in the online course you specify, if space is available in the course.

Students who are unsure about taking the online Introductory Biology sequence or desire more information may desire to:

• Contact the instructor (see course schedule in the Duck for instructor name and email link).
• Take a short quiz to determine if online courses are suited to you. The quiz available through this link is a self-assessment developed and used by the Western Governors University for their online offerings.
