Biology Curriculum for the A.S. degree in Biology


Important Notices:
For Biology students: Due to the approval of the B.S. degree in  Biology, the A.S. degree in Biology has been eliminated as a degree choice for new students. Students who had previously selected the A.S. in Biology will, of course, be permitted to graduate with that degree. New students, interested in biology as their major, should select the B.S. degree in Biology.

For pre-Medicine and pre-Dentistry students: Due to the approval of the B.S. degree in Biology, the A.S. degree in Biology has been eliminated as a degree choice for new pre-Medicine students or pre-Dentistry. Pre-Medicine and pre-Dentistry students who had previously selected the A.S. in Biology will, of course, be permitted to graduate with that degree. New students, interested in pre-Medicine or pre-Dentistry as their major, should select the biomedical track of the B.S. degree in Biology. New pre-Medicine and pre-Dentistry students may still select the A.S. degree in Chemistry.

For pre-Veterinary Medicine students: Due to the approval of the B.S. degree in Biology, the A.S. degree in Biology has been eliminated as a degree choice for new pre-Veterinary Medicine students. Pre-Veterinary Medicine students who had previously selected the A.S. in Biology will, of course, be permitted to graduate with that degree. New students, interested in pre-Veterinary Medicine as their major, should select the biomedical track of the B.S. degree in Biology.

    • MATH 1101, Mathematical Modeling, or MATH 1111, College Algebra AND

MATH 1101 or MATH 1111 and MATH 1112 may be taken simultaneously.

MATH 1501, Calculus I, 4 credit hours, may be taken in place of Pre-Calculus if the student is prepared. If MATH 1501 is taken in Area A, one hour of credit is applied to Area F.
