General and Career Information
Forestry focuses on the management and use of forest land to produce wood and wood fiber to satisfy the demands of society. Students study how forests grow and develop, and learn how to manage, to regenerate and harvest this renewable resource. Graduates pursue careers as industrial foresters, as forestry consultants and as foresters with government agencies (taken from the UGa description of its forestry program).
The Warnell School of Forest Resources provides information and links to career information for forestry students.
The Bureau of Labor Statistics maintains detailed and current information on forestry related careers. Two main career fields are discussed: Foresters and Conservation Scientists and Forestry and Logging Operations.
Transfer Institutions
Students enrolled in the Associate of Science program in Forestry at Clayton State University often plan to transfer to the University of Georgia to obtain a bachelors or higher degree. The Warnell School of Forest Resources at the University of Georgia offers the only bachelors or higher degrees in forestry in the State of Georgia. The degrees offered are B.S. in Forestry, M.S. in Forest Resources and Ph.D. in Forest Resources.
Recommended Curriculum
The recommended curriculum for the program of study in Forestry has been designed to meet the requirements for transfer to the University of Georgia.
The transfer requirements for forestry include both the Principles of Biology and Principles of Chemistry sequences for science majors. Forestry students should NOT select the physics sequence.
The recommended curriculum for the program of study in Forestry is provided at the following link:
For students who took courses under the quarter system, the following link shows the quarter system course equivalents for the program of study in Forestry.
