Important Notice: Due to the approval of the B.S. degree in Biology, the A.S. degree in Biology has been eliminated as a degree choice for new students. Students who had previously selected the A.S. in Biology will, of course, be permitted to graduate with that degree. New students, interested in biology as their major, should select the B.S. degree in Biology.

General and Career Information:
Biology is the science of life.
The American Institute of Biological Sciences maintains a Web site providing career information for the biological sciences.
The Bureau of Labor Statistics maintains detailed and current information on biology related careers.
Furman University maintains an excellent site for careers in the biological sciences. Use this link to reach the Virtual Job Fair. At the Virtual Job Fair, type in "biology" for your search.
Biology includes a wide variety of sub-fields and related disciplines. Career information for a number of these fields and disciplines is available through this link.
Transfer Institutions
Many students enrolled in the Associate of Science program in Biology at Clayton State University plan to transfer to other schools to obtain a bachelors or higher degree. Links to departments within the University System of Georgia that offer biology degrees at the bachelors level or higher are provided here:
U.S. News and World Report furnishes rankings of the top graduate schools in the biological sciences.
Recommended Curriculum
The completion of the biology degree depends very strongly on the proper selection and sequencing of courses. While the choices provided in Areas A-E of the Core Curriculum are valid for all students, there are some special requirements for biology students and all choices are not equal in terms of transfer requirements or optimum sequencing order.
The recommended biology curriculum complies with the approved Areas A-E for the core. You should note that biology students do not receive degree credit in the core for any mathematics courses at a level lower than Pre-Calculus (MATH 1113).
The transfer requirements for biology include both the Principles of Biology and Principles of Chemistry sequences for science majors. Biology students should NOT select any physics sequence in Area D of the core curriculum.
The recommended curriculum for the A.S. degree in Biology is provided by the following link:
For students who took courses under the quarter system, the following link shows the quarter system course equivalents for the A.S. degree in Biology.
Course Sequencing
Of special importance in the biology degree course sequencing are the required chemistry courses and their associated laboratories. The first of four (4) required chemistry courses (and their associated labs) must be taken in the first term of attendance to allow graduation in four semesters without summer school attendance. In order, the four courses are CHEM 1211/1211L, CHEM 1212/1212L, CHEM 2411/2411L, and CHEM 2412/2412L.
