Dr. Eric Bridges

  • Appeared on  community radio (WRFG—89.3) on Tuesday Sept. 15, 2009; he discussed Coping and Thriving in today’s world.
  • He also participated in a panel symposium for the Georgia chapter of the National Association of Multicultural Education on Sept. 26th, 2009. The theme of this year’s symposium is “ A Commitment to “Change” Through Social Justice and Equity: Advancing the Work”

Dr. Deborah Deckner (Coordinator for the M.S. in Psychology)

  • Spoke to Psi Chi  on Sept. 15, 2009.  The title of her talk will be "The Changing Face of Developmental Disabilities in America".
  • Co-coordinated the Undergraduate Research Conference on April 2, 2010

Dr. Kitty Deering

  • Co-presented an Ethics Workshop, "Being an Ethical Group Psychotherapist:
    An Ongoing Commitment to Self- Analysis & Emotional Engagement"  sponsored by the Atlanta Group Psychotherapy Society on August 21.  Click here for information on the program and the registration form.
  • Participated in a panel discussion of The Wounded Warrior, sponsored by the C.G. Jung Society of Atlanta following the Georgia Shakespeare performance of The Odyssey: A Journey Home on October 24, 2010.
  • Spoke on "PTSD and Homelessness" as part of the CSU Service Learning Series on Thursday, November 18, 2010 from 11:30 AM-12:30 PM in UC 268. The presentation will be followed by a "Sleep Out" that night at the Student Activity Center to raise awareness of homelessness.
  • Participated in a panel discussion with another psychologist and veterans from the Iraq and Vietnam wars following the airing of the documentary, “Posttraumatic Stress Disorder: Invisible Wounds of War” (a documentary in which she appears). The event was held in the auditorium of the Central Headquarters of the Atlanta-Fulton County Public Library in Margaret Mitchell Square on November 18, 2009 from 6:00PM-9:30 PM.
  • ·         Presented a seminar on Teaching Psychology to Undergraduates for the Emory University Postdoctoral Program in Psychology on Monday, February 8, 2010.

    ·         Presented a workshop on burnout and  compassion fatigue for the staff of the CSU Counseling Center on Friday, March 26, 2010.

Dr. Erica Gannon

  •  Judged at the Griffin Regional Science Fair on Feb. 26, 2010
  • Co-Hosted two conversation hours ("Improving Writing in Psychology" and "It's No Problem: PBL across the Psychology Curriculum) with Dr. Antoinette Miller at the Southeastern Psychological Association Annual Meeting in Chattanooga on March 11, 2010.

 

Dr. Sandy Harrison (retired Spring 2010)

  • Made a 2 hour presentation on Group Dynamics to the Clayton County Grassroots Leadership Institute on Sept. 22, 2009
  • Presented "Cultural Diversity in Metro Atlanta: Going Beyond Black and White" at the Diversity and Multicultural Conference on the CSU campus Oct. 16, 2009.

Dr. Sam Maddox

  • Was part of a panel of experts at the  Domestic Violence Awareness month address October 7, 2009.  Full details found here.
  • Is serving as the program evaluator for the Clayton County Adult Drug Court (Oct. 2009-present)
  • Was featured in the Math Interactive Learning Experience (M.I.L.E.) DVD released January 2010
  • Is the invited lecturer on Psychological Assessment for Children for Oakstone Publishing’s DVD lecture series (taping was on February 11th 2010)
  • Served as a 2010 Alternative Spring Break Faculty Facilitator in Washington D.C. to provide community service with CSU students to address the homelessness problem.

Dr. Donna McCarty (Department Chair)

  • Was appointed chair of the committee to write the University’s Interim Report for SACS Reaffirmation in AY 2009-2010
  • Served on a Commission on Colleges Southern Association of Colleges and Universities (SACS) Accreditation Committee November 17 – 19, 2009 at a university in Florida
  • Made a presentation at the Association of Heads of Departments of Psychology meeting in November of 2009.

Dr. Antoinette Miller (Departmental Coordinator)

  • Co-moderated the New York Times talk "The Clayton State
    Unplugged Challenge: Your Brain on Computers" with Dr. Barbara Musolf (Natural Sciences Associate Professor of Biology) in Sept. 2010
  • Presented "House on the Brain" at the Psi Chi Speakers Series on March 30, 2010.
  • Judged at several 2010 Georgia science fairs in February, including Coweta County (Feb. 2), Henry County (Feb. 5), and Griffin (Feb. 26).
  • Co-Hosted two conversation hours ("Improving Writing in Psychology" and "It's No Problem: PBL across the Psychology Curriculum) with Dr. Erica Gannon at the Southeastern Psychological Association Annual Meeting in Chattanooga on March 11, 2010.

Dr. Mario Norman

  • Is one of the co-chairs of the Faculty/Staff Drive at CSU for AY 2009-2010.  See his writeup in the Laker Spotlight here.
  • Will be presenting “The impact of privilege on diverse populations” at the inaugural Multicultural and Diversity Conference on Friday, October 16, 2009.

Dr. Celeste Walley-Jean

  • Was a keynote speaker at “Love Right, Love Well” on Tuesday, Sept. 29th, 2009 at Atlanta Metropolitan College. The program, “Love Right, Love Well” is designed to end dating violence and domestic abuse on college campuses and in our communities. The program is sponsored by the Break the Cycle and Every Step Counts organizations.
  • Was part of a panel of experts at the  Domestic Violence Awareness month address October 7, 2009.  Full details found here.
  • Presented  “Debunking the myth of the ‘angry’, Black Woman” and co-presenting “ACE Diversity Roundtables at CSU: Findings and Futures” at Clayton State University’s inaugural Multicultural and Diversity Conference on Friday, Oct. 16th 2009.
  • Conducted a workshop entitled “Cognitive Predictors of Dating Violence and African American College Students” at the Winter Training Institute for the California Coalition Against Sexual Assault (CALCASA) on January 21, 2010.
  • Presented in the inaugural A&S faculty colloquium (“Portraits of Brazil: How a Teacher became a Student”) entitled Scholars Spanning the Globe on February 5, 2010.
  • Met with the Consul General of Brazil for the southeastern United States, Ambassador Adalnio Ganem on August 11, 2010 (see picture below)

Dr. David Myers to speak to students

On October 16, 2009 Dr. David Myers, Professor of Psychology at Hope College and author of several psychology textbooks visited with one of our PSYC 1101 sections.
