Psychology and Human Services and Undergraduate Research in Psychology Awards

Selection Criteria

 

Each year our department selects two students as recipients of the Psychology and Human Services Award (PHS) and the Undergraduate Research in Psychology Award (URA). The PHS award is given to the senior student who best exemplifies academic excellence while demonstrating dedication to the disciplines of psychology and human service while the URA is given to the senior student who has exhibited the curiosity, aptitude, and perseverance necessary for success in research endeavors.

 

Eligible students for the PHS award must meet the following criteria:

ü  An overall (or institutional) GPA of 3.2 or better

ü  Senior status (90 semester hours minimum)

ü  Psychology and Human Services major

ü  Involvement in volunteer and campus activities and/or research activities, including ones appropriate to the major

ü  Demonstrated teamwork and supportiveness towards fellow students

ü  Nomination by one (or more) departmental faculty members

 

Eligible students for the URA award must meet the following criteria:

ü  An overall (or institutional) GPA of 3.2 or better

ü  Senior status (90 semester hours minimum)

ü  Psychology and Human Services major

ü  Demonstrated excellence in statistics and research methods (combined grade of 3.0)

ü  Participation in research opportunities with faculty and/or fellow students (e.g., independent study)

ü  Nomination by one (or more) departmental faculty members

 

Recipients will receive:

o   Paid student membership in the American Psychological Association for one year

o   One-year subscription to one journal of the recipient’s choice

o   Inscribed gift

o   Inscription on a perpetual plaque on display in the College of Arts & Sciences
