Dr.
Paul Guy Melvin is an Assistant Professor of Biology at Clayton
State University.
Dr. Melvin's research interests include endocrine disruption in aquatic systems. His recent work has involved investigating biomarkers of environmental estrogen exposure in the male western mosquitofish (Gambusia affinis). These biomarkers include variations in sperm production and the induction of vitellogenin (a normally female-limited protein used in egg production). It is hoped that these studies will contribute to the use of G. affinis as a biomonitor organism of exposure to estrogenic compounds.
