Phillip DePoy was Artistic Director for Atlanta's THEATRICAL OUTFIT when it achieved national fame for such acclaimed work as BEOWULF, APPALACHIAN CHRISTMAS (which he wrote), HAMLET THE MUSICAL (for which he wrote the music), and the first new translation of NO EXIT since its original English version. Review of his work appeared in The Atlantic Monthly, American Theatre, and London's Plays and Players. He has directed, composed music, or written plays for most theatres in Atlanta and throughout the region for the past twenty-five years. His play EASY won the EDGAR award in New York for best mystery play in the country. Mr. DePoy is also the author of nine published books, two published plays, and thirty-seven theatre pieces that have seen production throughout the country. His play Lamb on Fire was produced in New York. Appalachian Christmas has been produced throughout the United States every year since 1991. His Dell mystery novels, featuring Atlanta character Flap Tucker, have been called the best regional detective fiction on the market today, TOO EASY was a Shamus Award finalist. Recent review of his fiction call his Fever Devilin novels "some of the best regional fiction being written in America today." PUBLISHER'S WEEKLY calls the newest in the series, THE DRIFTER'S WHEEL, engaging throughout; solidly enjoyable" and insists that it will "keep readers guessing until the end. KIRKUS refers to DePoy as "a master of Southern storytelling." The author is currently director of theatre for Clayton State University.
His play TURNED FUNNY received four SUZI awards (Atlanta's Tony
Awards). His commissioned play CHRISTMAS AT SWEET APPLE sold out in 2007
at THEATRE IN THE SQUARE and was remounted for Christmas 2008.
Mr. DePoy's new stand alone novel, THE KING JAMES CONSPIRACY, came out in May of 2009. It
has been compared to Umberto Eco's NAME OF THE ROSE and Dan Brown's
fiction. The novel is due out in paperback in the spring of 2010.His newest play
STEALING DIXIE opened at THEATRE IN THE SQUARE in the fall of 2010 and has been
SUZI recommended for best play of 2010. His newest novel, A CORPSE'S NIGHTMARE,
