Mari Ann Roberts, PhD.

Thanks for coming . . .

I am Mari Ann Roberts, former high school English teacher and assistant professor in the Department of Teacher Education at Clayton State University. My research interests include multicultural education, African American secondary teachers and students, critical race theory, and teacher care. My current work, Startin’ Somethin’: Utilizing Pedagogical Tools to Access Student’s Sociocultural Selves, examines how/whether pre service teachers’ "cultural critical consciousness” (Gay & Kirk, 2003), positive classroom climate, and critical thinking about culture in education are increased by the use of certain pedagogical tools. In my free time I like to read a lot of books, fight against high-stakes testing, listen to a little jazz, and write a bit of poetry.

Hotep!
