Charging by contact requires physical contact between two objects, charging by induction does not.

Charging by contact will produce the charged object of the same sign as original charge used in charging, charging by induction will produce the charged object of the opposite sign.

Charging by contact will reduce the charge on the object used in charging, charging by induction will leave the charge on the object unchanged.
