Find :

(a) W -?

Note: as you lift the pumpkin, the force that you apply to the pumpkin is equal in magnitude to the weight of the pumpkin and is vertical and upward and so is the displacement.

W = F Dy cos (q)

W = (m g) Dy cos (0^o) = (3.20 kg)(9.81 m/s²)(1.20 m)(1) = 37.7 J

(b) W - ?

Note: as you carry the pumpkin from the field, the force that you apply to the pumpkin is vertical and upward but the displacement is horizontal.

W = (m g) Dx cos (90^o) = 0 J
