Given:

a = 0.725 m/s2

Find: (a) m - ?

 Let's find components of the forces acting on the suitcase: 

Ax = A cos(qA) = (115 N) cos(90.0o) = 0

Ay = A sin(qA) = (115 N) sin(90.0o) = 115 N

  wx = w cos(qw) = w cos(-90.0o) = 0

 wy = w sin(qw) = w sin(-90.0o) = w = m g

Applying second Newton's Law: 

SFx = m a x    0 = 0 (trivial result, since no forces act in x-direction)

 SFy = m a y      Ay + wy = m a y     

Ay - m g  = m a y     

Ay =  m g  + m a y  = m (g + a y)

m = Ay /(g + a y)

m =  (115 N)/ (9.81 m/s2 + 0.725 m/s2) = 10.9 kg

 

 

 

 

 

a =  (V - V0)/t

a = ((12.0 m/s) - 0)/ (4.00 x 10-3 s) = 3 x 103 m/s2

Fnet = m a = (0.530 kg)(3 x 103 m/s2) = 1.59 x 103 N
