TP 22.6

2nd Edition:

Given:  q = 14.0 mC

q = 90o

F = 2.20 x 10-4 N

V = 23.0 m/s

Find: F - ? if V = 6.80 m/s and q = 25o

Initial info allows us to find the strength of the magnetic field in the region:

F = q V B sin(q) = q V B sin(90o) = q V B

B = F/(q V) = (2.20 x 10-4 N)/((14.0 x 10-6 C)(23.0 m/s)) = 0.683 T

Moving at an angle:

F = q V B sin(q) = (14.0 x 10-6 C)(6.80 m/s)(0.683 T) sin(25o) = 2.75 x 10-5 N

2nd Edition:

Given:  q = 14.0 mC

q = 90o

F = 2.20 x 10-4 N

V = 27.0 m/s

Find: F - ? if V = 6.30 m/s and q = 25o

Initial info allows us to find the strength of the magnetic field in the region:

F = q V B sin(q) = q V B sin(90o) = q V B

B = F/(q V) = (2.20 x 10-4 N)/((14.0 x 10-6 C)(27.0 m/s)) = 0.582 T

Moving at an angle:

F = q V B sin(q) = (14.0 x 10-6 C)(6.30 m/s)(0.582 T) sin(25o) = 2.17 x 10-5 N
