PHYS 1112 - Introductory Physics
II
Lesson 7 - dc Circuits
I
Study Assignment:
Study: Chapter 21, Section 21.4
Lesson notes:
During this lesson, we will begin our discussion of direct current circuits. In this lesson we will study basic concepts associated with batteries, and work with combinations of resistors arranged in series and parallel configurations.
Objectives:
1. Understand the concepts of electromotive force, internal battery resistance and terminal voltage.
2. Know the relationships between potential differences across resistors in series and parallel combinations, and for currents through resistors in series and parallel combinations.
3. Be able to calculate the equivalent resistance of resistors in series and parallel combinations.
Vocabulary:
open circuit voltage
load resistance
