PHYS 1112 - Introductory Physics
II
Lesson 6 -
Resistance
Study Assignment:
Study: Chapter 21, Sections 21.2 - 21.3
Lesson notes:
During this lesson, we will continue our discussion of resistance and examine a model for the conduction of electricity in metals.
Objectives:
1. Understand that the resistance of an ohmic conductor is directly proportional to its length and inversely proportional to its cross-sectional area.
2. Understand that the resistivity of a conductor varies approximately linearly with temperature.
3. Be able to calculate the power supplied to a resistor and the power dissipated in a resistor.
Vocabulary:
temperature coefficient of resisitivity
critical temperature
superconductor
electromotive force
joule heating
I2R heating loss
Homework:
TQ: 21-24
TP: 21-12, 21-14, 21-15, 21-17, 21-19, 21-22
