PHYS 1112 - Introductory Physics
II
Lesson 21 -
Mirrors
Study Assignment:
Study: Chapter 26, Sections 26.2 - 26.4
Lesson notes:
In this this lesson we study the images formed by mirrors. Pay careful attention to the sign conventions for use of the mirror equation.
Objectives
1. Be able to use the mirror equation to predict the position, size and nature of images formed by a spherical (concave or convex) mirror.
2. Be able to construct ray diagrams for the images formed by a spherical (concave or convex) mirror.
Vocabulary:
real image
virtual image
lateral magnification
radius of curvature
concave mirror
convex mirror
paraxial rays
focal length and focal point
