Bonus opportunities:
events of interest, on and off campus. 

Students may write a one to two-page synopsis and evaluation to submit online for  bonus points, as set out in your syllabus.  Papers should follow the formatting guidelines to be found elsewhere on this site. This assignment is optional unless otherwise noted.

Bonus points are applied to Exam grades.

Short-term bonus opportunities may be posted on the home page.

You must attend these in person to submit them for bonus credit unless you have special permission to view the video recordings.

bulletLearn about the place where you live.  
bulletTake a tour of an Atlanta neighborhood, guided by the Atlanta Preservation Center. (follow the link for details)
bulletVisit the Atlanta History Center. (follow the link for details) In some classes, visits t the AHC are required--in that case, you must choose other bonus activities.
bulletAbout the Constitution
bulletWatch online: A Conversation on the Constitution: Judicial Independence  --  Supreme Court Justices Stephen Breyer, Anthony Kennedy and Sandra Day O’Connor join high school students from California and Pennsylvania to discuss why we need an independent judiciary. Taped in May, 2006, the justices take questions from the students and discuss the ways that the Constitution safeguards the role of judges so that they in turn can safeguard the rights of minorities and those with unpopular views.

bulletVisit a second museum (in addition to the required museum visit) and write a report.
bulletAttend performances at Spivey Hall (arrive on time, do not leave early, and be attentive).  Look for performances by American artists or of works by American composers.

HIST2265 (Minorities)

bulletWatch any video from the two "Eyes on the Prize" series.  These are in our library, and they are widely available elsewhere.
bulletWatch "The Molly Maguires" (available in the library) and write a report relating it to the Minorities class.
bulletView the academy award best picture of 2005, "Crash." Write a review that consists of a description or synopsis of the film, and conclude with your comments on the significance of the film's contents.

bulletWatch the film "Good Night and Good Luck" and write a report.
