Syllabus: History Internships

Catalog description: An approved historical field experience carried out by the students in an appropriate institution, agency or business. Requires the approval of the history department experiential learning coordinator (Dr. Kemp), the Office of Experiential Learning and the placement site. 

Prospective interns will:

bulletFIRST: Contact the Experiential Learning section of the Career Services office in advance.
bulletSeek a position (with help and advice from the program!)
bulletNegotiate the terms of their learning objectives and duties with the host organization
bulletReturn the Learning Objectives form to me after it is completed.
bulletRegister in the appropriate course for the semester of their service.

 

bulletInterns will
bulletWork in the host institution, which will report to the University on their performance.
bulletUse GeorgiaVIEW 
bulletto report on the learning objectives and duties negotiated with the host institution
bulletto keep a progress journal
bulletto file final report describing, in essay form, their activities as interns
bulletAttend any scheduled meetings or individual conferences during the semester. 

 

bulletThe host organization will
bulletNegotiate the learning objectives and duties the intern will be expected to fulfill
bulletProvide a meaningful learning experience for the intern
bulletSubmit a performance report to the university at the end of the internship

 

bulletThe basis of grades will be student journals and reports, meeting attendance, the host institution's performance report, and written work.
