STUDENT STEPS FOR INTERNSHIPS

Be certain that you are eligible to participate in an internship during the semester you have chosen. If you are not eligible, you may be dropped from the class.

bulletContact Career Services and your Faculty Coordinator (Dr. Kemp) to discuss your intentions; obtain required forms from Career Services.
bulletEligibility Requirements:
bulletComplete at least one full semester at Clayton State
bulletBe in academic Good Standing (usually means at least a 2.0)
bulletEarn the appropriate number of credit hours (30 hours )
bulletComplete all course prerequisites
bulletGetting an internship is like getting a job. So…:
bulletDevelop a resume
bulletNetwork, network, network
bulletAttend career fairs
bulletLearn about interviewing
bulletComplete the Student Information Sheet and submit to Career Services.
bulletIdentify an internship site: 
bulletReview internship opportunities that are posted in Career Services
bulletReceive and read email announcements about internship opportunities
bulletIdentify your own potential internship and seek approval from the Office of Career Services and your Faculty Coordinator. Keep seeking an internship until you have an internship.
bulletRead and send email
bulletMake telephone calls
bulletSubmit resumes
bulletAccept interviews
bulletCheck internship postings in hard copy and at www.MonsterTrak.com6
bulletComplete the Internship Agreement Form: 
bulletProvide complete, accurate information about the Internship Site, Address, and Supervisor.
bulletDevelop at least three learning objectives.
bulletLearning objectives answer the question, “What do you expect to learn by participating in this experience?” Work with your site supervisor to develop these.
bulletList the duties, responsibilities, or activities that will enable you to meet your objectives.
bulletObtain signatures (your own and  your site supervisor).
bulletRegister for the correct class and pay tuition and fees:
bulletIf an internship course is not listed in the Class Schedule, check with your major department.
bulletHand the completed and SIGNED Learning Objectives form to your coordinator who will file it with the Careers Office.
bulletCheck the Class Schedule or class syllabus and note dates for MANDATORY meetings with your coordinator. Your grade may be affected by absences from these meetings; these may be either individual or group meetings..
