1. Reading notes: Ideally, you will prepare these notes while your read your chapters, or immediately after.  However, if you don’t have time to write up a chapter in advance, you can still take notes in class during the discussion. Please don’t cheat yourself by failing to do the readings before we meet. For each reading submit a copy of your notes in WebCT Vista no later than 10 days after the discussion day.  I will do random quality checks on these reports and provide you with comments when I see yours.  No one will be overlooked in this process. If you are unsure of the quality of your preparation, you may request a quality check. You will earn points for completing this assignment: 10 for 100% completion, 9 for 90%, etc. No late submissions accepted. Notes should include the following points:

2. Research / writing project:  Prepare a 5-10 page research paper.  The grade will be based on three steps of preparation:

Submit preliminary outline with tentative list of sources.

Submit completed paper

 3.  Brief biographical report—prepare and present a 5-10 minute biographical sketch on one of the “Persons of Interest” list, or of another person approved by me.  More details in class.
