 | Open the Google search engine
for the internet and enter your topic choice. [Tip: You may want to try
several variations of your search string, or refine it in the "advanced
search" screen
 | There will be about ten sites listed on the first screen. Save
a copy of this screen, because the engine will bring slightly
different results on different attempts. |
 | Submit this information before the first deadline. |
 | 1% of your course grade. |

 | Go to each of these sites and examine it. Follow links,
investigate thoroughly. You may find this

 | After investigating each site, prepare an annotated list of the
internet sources. Say something about each one by name--even if is only a
sentence explaining that certain of the sites did not actually relate
to your topic.. Include the site's url. Add a paragraph evaluating the
over-all usefulness of the internet as a resource for your topic. |

 | Write a short paper on your topic.
 | In addition to anything useful you find on the internet, use at least two non-internet sources (books, articles) to enrich your
understanding of the topic. [If you have never done so, take one of the
library mini-courses on using Galileo. Use your topic for the search.] |
 | Be certain that your final version has a proper heading, notes, and
a list of sources cited. Direct quotations also should be noted.
Length: 2 to 3 pages is ideal. Do not exceed 5 pages. |

Method of submission:
Go to WebCT. Select the "Writing Assignment" icon. Select the specific
assignment and follow the directions to upload your submission. The
second and third submissions will be composed as Microsoft Word documents before
you upload them into WebCT.

Deadline summary
You should choose a topic and begin work as soon as possible. This assignment can not be accomplished over a weekend. The exact due dates are posted in WebCT
on the Quiz page menu.
