Composition Topic

 

 

You are writing a “short-story” of your own.  It can be any type of story: fairy tale, fantasy, western, romance, suspense, science fiction, mystery, murder, etc.  Create and describe your characters.  Set the scene mentioning in detail: the weather, time of the day, place(s) & the things in the background, people’s attitudes and emotional conditions or states of mind, their physical & personal traits, their clothing.  Narrate the main actions and the actions that are part of the background (simultaneous actions, actions in progress, resulting actions, repetitive or habitual actions, interrupting actions) the ones that help set up the scene.  Have an unexpected ending or a concrete and definite one, if you wish.

Write in complete sentences using preterite and imperfect. 

Use adverbs to describe how, when, and where actions took place. 

Use words to describe the progress of your narration such as: once upon a time, first, then, later, after, afterwards, before, during, in the morning/afternoon/night, finally, etc.

 

 

 

 

 

Instructions for the Final Editing of the Composition

 

 

FORMAT:

 

  • The text is typed.
  • It is double-spaced.
  • The font size is 12.
  • All margins are 1 inch (top/bottom, left/right).
  • At least 25 or 26 lines written.
  • Write on the first line: the name of the story and on the right top corner your name & last name only (do not write: composition, the date, the name of the course, the professor’s name, the college name, etc).
