Background
|
Morning person. Native Southerner who adores the Appalachian mountains. I think in a previous life I must've been a tree. Academic Credentials: Master's degree in Psychology (Indiana University); Ph.D. in Interdisciplinary Studies (Emory University). Travel: Have lived in Georgia, Indiana, and Texas, traveled over most of the North American continent, and spent extended time in Mexico, Bolivia, Canada, and England. I like being spontaneous when going some place, like stopping on the shoulder of a Nebraska road to smell sweet clover or sitting quietly for hours amid abbey ruins in the Yorkshire Moors. |
Philosophy of Life |
I believe that God is present in every moment of our lives and that we are blessed beyond measure when we seek the leading of the Spirit. If I had to summarize the purpose of my life on this planet, it is "to delight the heart of God." I think I do this most when I am grateful--for friends, for meaningful work, and for beauty all around me in the flowers, sky, and stars. I think I also delight God's heart when I do loving things for others. My vocational mission is to create lifelong learners who contribute to the good of the local community and the world at large. This means that I emphasize practical skills as well as content knowledge in my classes. Since retirement I have discovered the importance of simply being still. My value system is best summed up in the tune, Simple Gifts. |
| Favorite Things |
Carolina wrens, public television, cool weather, wildflowers, sunrise, Irish music, mountain streams, wearing blue jeans and tennis shoes, Boston, Hershey's chocolates, my loving husband, and my tender-hearted son. A poem whose glorious imagery particularly touches me is Spender's I Think Continually of Those. |
