Catalog Description:

BIOL4999A: The purposes of this class are to assess the biology degree program and to assist students in seeking employment or further schooling. Students are required to attend three class meetings. Students will participate in a seminar on how to prepare for job searches and graduate and/or professional school. Students will complete a series of surveys to assess the quality of the biology degree program. Students will take a two-hour standardized subject test in biology to assess their knowledge in biology. Students will also participate in an individually scheduled senior exit interview. A fee is required to pay for the standardized exam. Current fee is $26.

BIOL4999B: The purposes of this class are to assess the biology degree program and to assist students in seeking employment or further schooling. Students are required to attend two class meetings. Students will participate in a seminar on how to prepare for job searches and graduate and/or professional school. Students will complete a series of surveys to assess the quality of the biology degree program. Students will also participate in an individually scheduled senior exit interview.

Course prerequisite and co-requisite:

Prerequisites: BIOL 3200, BIOL 3250, BIOL 3380, BIOL 3500, BIOL3650, BIOL 4100, BIOL 4201 (must be taken the final semester prior to graduation).

Computer Requirement:

Each CCSU student is required to have ready access throughout the semester to a notebook computer that meets faculty-approved hardware and software requirements for the student's academic program. Computer Skill Prerequisites:

Able to use the Windows operating system

Able to use Microsoft Word

Able to send and receive e-mail using your CCSU account

Able to attach and retrieve attached files via email

Able to use a Web browser.

In-class Use of Student Notebook Computers:

Student notebook computers will not be used in this course.

U (Unsatisfactory)

Neglecting to attending the Career Building Workshop OR neglecting to complete ALL of the following: Senior Exit Interview, and laboratory and computer skills surveys.

Career Building event Choices (choose from one of the following options and let Dr. Furlong know at the first meeting):

Attend a workshop and provide proof of attending workshop to Dr. Furlong (you will be given a ticket)

Note: This class is REQUIRED for graduation with a BS in Biology!!!!

Attendance is REQUIRED at all class meetings. Attendance will be taken at each class meeting with the student's signature on the class roll. If you cannot make a class meeting you MUST contact the instructor and make arrangements to make up the work you missed. All work must be completed before you can pass the course successfully and graduate with a BS in Biology from CSU.

Any type of activity that is considered dishonest by reasonable standards may constitute academic misconduct. The most common forms of academic misconduct are cheating and plagiarism. All instances of academic dishonesty will result in a grade of zero for the work involved.
