Catalog Description:

BIOL4999A:  The purposes of this class are to assess the biology degree program and to assist students in seeking employment or further schooling. Students are required to attend three class meetings. Students will participate in a seminar on how to prepare for job searches and graduate and/or professional school. Students will complete a series of surveys to assess the quality of the biology degree program. Students will take a two-hour standardized subject test in biology to assess their knowledge in biology. Students will also participate in an individually scheduled senior exit interview. A fee is required to pay for the standardized exam. Current fee is $26.

BIOL4999B:  The purposes of this class are to assess the biology degree program and to assist students in seeking employment or further schooling. Students are required to attend two class meetings. Students will participate in a seminar on how to prepare for job searches and graduate and/or professional school. Students will complete a series of surveys to assess the quality of the biology degree program. Students will also participate in an individually scheduled senior exit interview. 

Course prerequisite and co-requisite:

Prerequisites: BIOL 3200, BIOL 3250, BIOL 3380, BIOL 3500, BIOL3650, BIOL 4100, BIOL 4201 (must be taken the final semester prior to graduation).

Computer Requirement:

Each CCSU student is required to have ready access throughout the semester to a notebook computer that meets faculty-approved hardware and software requirements for the student's academic program. Attending a Career Building Event (see choices below) AND completion of the ALL of the following:  Biology Fields Test, Senior Exit Interview, and laboratory and computer skills surveys.  Attending a Career Building Event (see choices below) AND completion of the ALL of the following:  Senior Exit Interview, and laboratory and computer skills surveys. 

U (Unsatisfactory)

Neglecting to attending a Career Building event OR neglecting to complete ALL of the following: Biology Fields Test, Senior Exit Interview, and laboratory and computer skills surveys.   Neglecting to attending the Career Building Workshop OR neglecting to complete ALL of the following: Senior Exit Interview, and laboratory and computer skills surveys.  

Career Building event Choices (choose from one of the following options and let Dr. Furlong know at the first meeting):

  1. Attend a workshop and provide proof of attending workshop to Dr. Furlong (you will be given a ticket)
    1. Graduate School Workshop:  1/29 12:30 p.m. or 5:00 p.m.  Student center room 267
    2. ACE your resume Workshop:  2/4 at 12:30 p.m. or 2/5 at 5:00 p.m. Library room 200
    3. ACE your interview workshop:  2/4 at 5:00 p.m. or 2/5 at 12:30 p.m. Library room 200
    4. Mock interview day:  2/13 (call 678-466-5400 to make appt.)
  2. Submit your resume to Dr. Furlong for review (if you miss all of the workshops you can choose this option). 
  3. Submit your personal statement to Dr. Furlong for review. 

Note:  This class is REQUIRED for graduation with a BS in Biology!!!!
