Dr. Fran Norflus is an associate professor of biology in the Department of Natural Sciences at Clayton State University. She has taught biology for non majors (biology 1111 and biology 1112), immunology, microbiology, genetics, biotechnology and cell biology at Clayton State.

She has also taught classes in cell biology, human biology, neurobiology, microbiology and immunology at other institutions before coming to Clayton State in the fall of 2005.

Her academic interests include research in the area of treatment of neurological diseases. She has performed bone marrow transplants on mice with Sandhoff disease and has also done research on the treatment of mice with Huntington's disease.  Her current research involves investigating the behavioral phenotype in wildtype and mutant C. elegans worms.  She is also beginning a molecular biology study analyzing the promoter of the Huntington's associated protein-1 (HAP-1) gene.
