Hosting a speaker

Each speaker will be assigned a group of students.  Each group  will need to do the following:

1. Preparing a biography of the speaker  - 10 points.

    1. Review the speaker’s website or contact the speaker directly for this information
    2. Include information on the following

                                                   i.     Current information –  where speaker works, job title, how long he/she has been employed there

ii.     Where was the speaker born?

iii.     Describe the speakers current activities, in general

iv.     Awards, publications (how many), research grants, if appropriate

c. Completed TYPED biography needs to be submitted to Dr. Norflus the week before the speaker arrives on campus (unless you are hosting the first speaker and you may turn it in a few days late)

d.  When you contact the speaker, give them directions to campus.

2. Introducing the speaker – 5 points.

a. Use the above information to prepare a 5 minute introduction of the speaker.

b. End your presentation by announcing the title of the seminar

3. Misc. - 5 points

                a. If the speaker is lost or cannot find the parking lot, give them directions via your cell phone.  You must give them your number in advance.

b. Meet speaker in the parking lot and give them a parker permit (which will be provided by Dr. Norflus)

c. Bring speaker to the class room.

d. Help speaker set up computer and provide any other needs.

4. Working as part of a group

You will need to work as a group to complete these tasks.  It is up to each individual group to decide who will do what.  I will not assign tasks.  Everyone in the group will get the same grade.  However, if I am told that one (or more) groups members is not participating, this person(s) will be assigned their own speaker and will have to do everything themselves.  If it is too late in the semester to get assigned your own speaker, you will be assigned a grade of 0.
