Look at lab review to see different parts of the microscope

 

Multiply ocular piece with objective to get total magnification

 

Compound microscope

Dark field, bright field and phase contrast light 

View part of an organism

Look at slides

 

Dissecting microscope

Transmitted and reflected light

View entire organism

View objects in Petri dishes or glass jars

 

To learn how to use the microscope

Look at the letter e first

Always focus first with the course adjustment and then with the fine adjustment.

Return microscope to the lowest objective when putting it away.

 

Animal cells

How are they different from plant cells

Swab the inside of your mouth.  Place in a drop of water and add coverslip and methylene blue

Look under the compound microscope.

 

Plant cells

Take fresh elodea leaf, add water and a coverslip.

Look under the compound microscope.

 

Dissecting scopes

Look at the different organisms.
