Biology 1111 – supplemental information
Exams
The majority of the exams will be done on scantrons. You must bring a pencil to all exams. There will be two versions of the exam. You must write what is the version that you received on the scantron, or I will deduct 10 points from your exam. I do not want to grade your exam individually. If you do not bring a scantron to the exam, you will receive a grade of 0 for the exam. If you do not write an answer for one of the questions or if you write the wrong answer on your scantron than you did on your question sheet, you will receive a grade of 0.
The exam begins at the beginning of class - at 8:25 AM. If you arrive after 8:35 AM, you will be given a grade of 0 regardless of your excuse. Please arrive on time for the exams. It is disruptive to everyone else in the class if you do not.

Assignments
There will be a number of in class assignments. I will collect some but not all of these assignments. If you come to class and do the assignment, you will probably do very well. If you do not come to class and therefore, cannot do the assignment, you will get a grade of 0. You will not be able to complete the assignment if you are not in class.
There may also be some quizzes and other out of class assignments that you will need to do.
At the end of the semester, the average of all of your quizzes and assignments will count the same as one exam grade. Therefore, it is important to do these assignments.
I will drop your lowest grade on the assignments. I do not want to keep track of everyone’s absences and excuses for assignments. Please do not tell me why you cannot come to class or e-mail me an assignment if you cannot come to class. If you miss an assignment the day that you are absent, then this will be your dropped grade. If you miss more than one assignment, then you will be given a grade of 0 for each additional missed assignment regardless of the assignment.
Submission of assignments
For most of the assignments, you will need to print out the assignment and hand it to me or I will print it out and you will complete it and hand it in.
If we are doing an in class assignment, you will get a 0, if you are not in class. For an out of class assignment, I will deduct 10 points for each day that the assignment is late. I will not accept any assignments after 3 days past the due date. For these assignments, you still must hand it to me. I will not accept assignments by e-mail.
You may also have to submit some assignments through Georgia Vista.
Extra credit assignment
At the end of the semester, you will have the opportunity to do one extra credit assignment which is worth 10 points. I will add the grade on to the grade for your final exam. There will be no other opportunities so please do not ask.
In this class, we will do a variety of games/activities. For example, I will give you some crossword puzzles and jeopardy style questions. For the extra credit assignment, you are to pick one of these activities (or pick another game that you know about) and make up some questions that can be used to study for the final exam.
Your assignment MUST be posted in Georgia Vista as an attachment in the discussion area so that other students can see it. If you cannot post it in Georgia Vista, then you will get no credit for this assignment. If you cannot use Georgia Vista, please come and see me or go to the HUB. This assignment is due on or before December 1 by 8:25 PM. If you submit it after this time, then you will not receive any credit for it.
I will give more details on this assignment (relating to the format and the number of questions required) closer to the due date of the assignment.
