ENGL 4900 Directed Research Guidelines and Forms

Request for ENGL 4900 Directed Research Approval:


ENGL 4900: Directed Research

Prerequisite: ENGL 3100

An intensive, advanced investigation of selected topics deriving from an individual course of study. The content will be determined jointly by the instructor, the student, and the student’s advisor. The proposed course of study must be submitted to the Department Head by a deadline published each term for Curriculum Committee approval.

After consulting with the advisor and the instructor and gaining their support for the proposed directed research, students must submit a proposal for approval of the directed research to the Curriculum Committee. The Committee will advise the Department Head about the status of the proposal.

The ENGL 4900 Directed Research must meet the following criteria:

Four weeks before the last day of class of the preceding semester, as noted in the Schedule of Classes.

The proposal should look like a course syllabus and must include the following:

Registering for ENGL 4900:

After the Curriculum Committee approves the proposal, the student must submit a copy of the signed cover sheet and a copy of the syllabus to the registrar’s office. The student may register for ENGL 4900 during any phase of the registration period.
