Summer 2007 Syllabi
Advisement
|
A simplified model of lipid "rafts", also called detergent-resistant membranes. These local regions are enriched with cholesterol and saturated phospho- and sphingolipids, especially sphingomyelin. Rafts are believed to play an important role in many cellular processes, including signaling, membrane fusion, and localization of membrane proteins. For an excellent review see Brown and London. |
