A2 - applies to MATH 1231, MATH 1241, MATH 1113 and MATH 1501.

Use of courses numbered MATH 1231 or higher in Area A requires placement scores exempting MATH 1101 or MATH 1111.

A3 - applies to MATH 1231 and MATH 1113.

Prerequisite: MATH 1101 or 1111 or equivalent placement score.

A4 - applies to MATH 1241.

Prerequisite: MATH 1101 or 1111 or equivalent placement score. Qualified Business majors are recommended to take MATH 1241 in Area A if they meet the prerequisites.

A5 - applies to MATH 1501.

Prerequisite MATH 1113 or equivalent placement score. For students whose majors require calculus, one hour of MATH 1501 taken here will apply to Area F. Also note that students who have taken MATH 151 will have only 3.33 semester hours of Calculus I and will not be ready for MATH 2502.

B1 - applies to COMM 1001.

Students may exempt taking this course by demonstration of basic skills and then take another course from this list. This course is not open to students registered for or with credit for COMM 1110.

B2 - applies to COMM 1002, ITEC 1001 and CPTG 1010.

In order to take COMM 1002, ITEC 1001 or CPTG 1010, the student must first take COMM 1001 or exempt by demonstration of basic skills.

B3 - applies to COMM 1002.

Prerequisite: basic functional knowledge of Windows, word processing and e-mail, and COMM 1001 or exemption from COMM 1001. Not open to students registered for or with credit for COMM 1110.

B4 - applies to COMM 1110.

This course is not open in Area B to students registered for or with credit for COMM 1001 or 1002. Students who need COMM 1110 in Area F should take ITEC 1001, CPTG 1010 or foreign language in this area; consult an advisor. Two (2) hours of credit of COMM 1110 will be applied to Area B; the third hour will be excess credit. Note SPCH 201 or SPCH 220 will also substitute, but a grade in COMM 1110 will not replace SPCH 201 or SPCH 220 in GPA.

B5 - applies to ITEC 1001.

Prerequisite: basic functional knowledge of Windows, word processing and e-mail, and COMM 1001 or exemption from COMM 1001.

B6 - applies to CPTG 1010.

Prerequisite: MATH 1101 or higher placement and basic functional knowledge of Windows, word processing and e-mail and (to count CPTG 1010 in Area B) COMM 1001 or exemption from COMM 1001. Note: CPTG 1010 can also be used in Area D in conjunction with CPTG 1111 without consideration of COMM 1001.

B7 - applies to SPAN 1002, FREN 1002 and GERM 1002.

Up to two (2) hours may be applied to Area B; the third hour will be excess credit. Higher number language can be substituted.

B8 - applies to SPAN 1999, FREN 1999 and GERM 1999.

Prerequisite: 1002-level foreign language or equivalent skill. Designed for students needing a review to be prepared for intermediate level language 2001.

C1 - applies to PHIL 2301.

The upper division course, PHIL 321, can meet the requirement by substitution, but a grade in PHIL 2301 will not replace a previous PHIL 321 grade in GPA.

C2 - applies to substitution using ENGL 212 (quarter system course).

ENGL 212, English Literature II, from the quarter system, will meet the Area C1 requirement; however, ENGL 2122 may not be used in Area C1.
