Homework Solution

TQ 15-11

Given:

H1 = 900 mrem/hr at 1 m distance

Find:

How far to move to reduce H to 100 mrem/hr?

Science:

inverse square law

(assuming a point source)

H µ 1/r2

Solve:

H/H1 = r12/r2

r2 = r12 (H1/H) = (1 m)2 (900 mrem/hr)/(100 mrem/hr)

r = 9 m ANS

Therefore, move 9 m meters away from the source or 8 more meters from present location in a radial direction.
