Find:

    vertical height attained

Science:

    KE_i + PE_i = KE_f + PE_f

    PE = mgh

    KE = (1/2)m(1/2)mv²

Solve:

    KE_i + PE_i = KE_f + PE_f

    (1/2)mv² + 0 = 0 + mgh        with h measured from the level surface

    h = v² /(2g) = (5 m/s)² /[(2)(9.80 m/s² )] =1.28 m
