Chapter Objectives - Chapter 1: Introduction
Lesson notes:
Since this is the first lesson of the course and you are receiving your syllabus on the first day of the course, the study assignment should be completed after class. A number of the assigned homework questions will be used as examples during the class period.
Objectives:
1. Understand the overall objectives for the course.
2. Know the principal sources of energy.
3. Know the four sectors for end uses of energy.
4. Be able to calculate the doubling time for exponential growth.
5. Understand how the price of oil has depended on historical events and market forces.
6. Understand that energy consumption depends upon intensity of use and level of activity.
7. Understand how energy conservation by technical fixes or lifestyle changes relates to energy consumption.
8. Understand the benefits of energy conservation.
