*All three courses are
tightly structured so that each section of the same course teaches and assesses
using a common syllabus.
The instruction and
assessment of COMM1001 and COMM1002 comprise at least two-thirds of COMM1110
instruction and assessment. The other
one-third of COMM1110 consists of instruction and practice in group dynamics
and peculiarities of group communication.
Group projects that do not include a panel or symposium presentation are
not rated according to the CSU Speaking Criteria. The principles of the criteria are taught in the context of group
communication, but the students’ completion of group projects is not rated
according to CSU Speaking Criteria.
Other assessment measurements are used.
When the group project results in a panel or symposium presentation, the
members of the group are individually rated according to the CSU Speaking
Criteria.\
**Criterion 1 of the CSU
Speaking Criteria, Knowledge of the Subject, is reserved for use in discipline,
content-focused courses, which assess students’ abilities to communicate orally
on the designated topic. This criterion
includes a broader base of knowledge than does Criterion 2, which is
essentially the content revealed in the scope of the oral delivery time.
*** Speeches that receive
five “4” ratings earn a “D” grade. To
get a “C” grade, the speech must have earned at least one
”5” rating.
