Career Opportunities

The Communication and Media Studies major prepares students for careers in some of the fastest growing sectors of the local and national economy.

Between 2000 and 2010, for example, desktop publishing will rank among the nation's ten fastest-growing careers, according to the federal Bureau of Labor Statistics. During the same period, jobs for public relations specialists will increase much faster than is average for all careers, while jobs for writers, editors, actors, producers, and directors will all grow faster than average; career opportunities in computer-based media (i.e. animation, video, etc.) are projected to increase by 50 percent and more.

Similar trends are apparent in most communication fields, as the global information economy continues to fuel demand for computer-savvy artists, writers, editors, and designers.
