Interested in CMS?
We recommend the following to students planning to major in Communication and Media Studies.
- Immediately declare your major as “pre-CMS.”
- Do not take the one-hour speech courses COMM 1001 and COMM 1002. CMS requires the three-hour version, COMM 1110.
- Take the following courses early in your college career:
- ENGL 1102 English Composition II
- CMS 2010 Introductin to Media Studies
- CMS 2100 Introduction to Film
- COMM 1110 Spoken Communication
Note that you must earn a combined GPA of 2.5 or better in these four courses before you can be admitted to CMS.
- Begin your required language sequence early. (Most students begin with SPAN 1002.)
- Take the Regents' Test and the CMS writing assessment before reaching 45 total hours.
- Apply to the CMS program as soon as you are eligible. Electronic application forms are available from this web site.
