Phase 1 - building the bat houses

Phase 2 - painting the bat houses

Phase 3 - hanging the bat houses

Phase 4 - checking the houses for bats

For bat houses to be attractive to the bats, they have to have a proper temperature.  To achieve this, the houses have to be painted a darker color than the wood they were built out of so that you can be sure they'll get warm enough.  These houses were painted three different shades of brown to allow us to see if the variation in the color resulted in making some houses more attractive to the bats.

Here is one of the houses getting its first coat of paint.
