| I recently was invited down to Auburn, where I got to
meet with a bunch of great bat people and I also got to see their colony
of big brown bats. Here's a picture of me holding one of their
bats - she was a little grumpy about being grabbed, but actually took it
pretty well.
Here is a different bat scrabbling around on my glove...

| The Auburn bat colony has the bats housed together.
Here you can see a number of female big brown bats together in the corner
of one room. They are hiding behind metal screening that lets them
hang easily.
Here's a picture of a single bat on the mesh. Notice the bands on her wing. Each bat has a unique combination of colors and numbers to that they can be kept track of individually.

They also give them crevices to climb into so that they
can move between different areas when they want. The picture on
the left shows a bat crammed into a crevice, while in the picture on the
right, there is one bat in the crevice, and a second one hanging right
next to it.
