BIOL3650 - Fall 2011
This is the home page for BIOL 3650, Comparative Vertebrate Anatomy. It
includes study of vertebrate form, function, and evolution. Enrollment in
this class requires co-enrollment in the laboratory section, BIOL 3650L.
Students should check these web pages frequently
as well as the course webpage on GAView to get the latest information on changes
to the syllabus and the due dates for any assignments.

Class Announcements
- 8/10/2011 - Due to the fact that the 6th edition
was not published until recently, the bookstore appears to only have the 5th
edition. For that reason, we will work to make sure that students with
either the 5th or 6th editions are getting the same material. My
apologies for any confusion.
- 8/9/2011 - You will need to bring your computer
with you to class on the first day along with anything you need to connect
to the internet and GAView. Make sure your GAView account works before that
day. Any students without their computer or who cannot access GAView will
lose the points for the assignment we complete.
- 8/8/2011 - After classes start, all future class announcements will be
posted in GAView, so be sure to check there regularly.
- 8/4/2011 - This class requires that you have taken BIOL1108
successfully. For that reason, your instructor assumes that you have a
basic understanding of topics covered in that course. These basic
topics will be expanded on in this course, so if you have forgotten them,
you should review them. This background information will be necessary
if you are going to understand the material in this course. In
particular, you need to understand the ideas of evolution by natural
selection, descent with modification,
and phylogeny/systematics that were covered in your BIOL1108 textbook.
You also should understand the basic evolutionary history of animals,
and the basic characteristics of the chordates, as these will be
starting points for much of the information in this course.
- 8/4/2011 - some of the items posted on the course website will be in the format produced by
Microsoft Office 2007. If you are using an earlier version of Office,
you need to go to
this link
to download the converters that will let you read Office 2007 files
- 8/4/2011 - We will use GeorgiaView this semester for several assignments, some of which
may be done during class time. If we are going to use it during class
time, you will be told the class period before. You will need to make sure that your account works
and that you have access to a laptop that you can bring to class when
needed. If you do not have one, you will receive an automatic zero for
any assignments given through GeorgiaView
