January 18: Please have your
Neurons in Action installed on your computer and read about the layout of
the panels and graphs. Use the text to start working through the
"Introduction to Neurons in Action" tutorial.
Read about
Ramon Y Cajal famous
neuroanatomist, who was awarded the Nobel Prize in 1906 for his work on the
Neuron Theory.
Questions for Chapter 1:
Review the history of studies of the nervous system and determine at what
level (molecular, cellular, systems, behavioral, or cognitive) these studies
take place. At a meeting I attended last week, a new field of neuroscience
was discussed, neuroecology. What do you think a neuroecologist
studies?
Questions for Chapter 2: What
cellular structures are unique to neurons and what unique functions do they
carry out? How are the axons, dendrites and cell soma different,
anatomically and functionally from one another?
