Here's the mudpuppy head from the dorsal side |
In this view you can see the three sets of superficial muscles on the ventral surface. These are often ripped when the skin is removed. |
This picture shows the ventral surface of the mudpuppy's head. The forceps are underneath the intermandibularis muscle. |
This shows the ventral surface as well. The forceps are pointing to where the interhyoideus muscle should be (it should be on the same level as the intermandibularis, but it appears to have ripped). |
This picture shows the ventral surface of the head with the forceps under the sphincter colli muscle. |
This shows the ventral surface with the superficial muscles removed so that you can see the geniohyoideus and the branchiohyoideus. |
This picture shows the mudpuppy's "cheek" muscles. |
This shows the muscles of the forelimb. You can also see the procoracohumeralis connecting the head to the top of the forelimb. The latissimus dorsi is not visible in this picture because it's covered by the upper part of the limb. |
This shows the mudpuppy with the forelimb pulled down to show the latissimus dorsi. |
This shows the hind limbs of the mudpuppy. |
This shows the hindlimb extended - the tail is to the left in the picture. |
This picture shows the dorsal muscles from the mudpuppy's trunk |
