We use the PhysioEx 4.0 software to allow us to simulate a number of different experiments in physiology that would be difficult to do in class due to different constraints.  Since every student has a laptop computer, this software can be used fairly easily.  However, some computers do not run the software as easily as others.  In general, problems occur on some computers that have America Online software installed on them (but this is not always the problem).  If you follow the instructions on this page, you should be able to get PhysioEx running on your computer without any problems.

Normal Operation

On the majority of computers, when you insert the PhysioEx CD in the computer, you should seen a screen that looks like this:

If the red hand on the clock is NOT moving, you should download the macromedia flash player.  You'll need to be connected to the web to download the file.  If you're connected to the network, you can start the process by clicking on the appropriate point on the screen.

If the red hand is moving, you should be able to click on the "Proceed" button to load the software.

Manual Operation

If nothing happens when you insert the CD, you need to load PhysioEx manually.  There are several steps to doing this.

Load your web browser program (either Internet Explorer or Netscape Navigator).
Go to the file menu in that program and select "Open" (as shown below)

A dialog box like the one shown below should pop up.  Click on the "Browse" button.

Use the file selection dialog box to select the PhysioEx 4.0 CDROM on the computer so that you see a display similar to this one:

Click on the file called "starter.html" and click the "Open" button.
Click the "OK" button on the open dialog box.
This should get you to a screen that looks like the first screen on this page and you should be able to run PhysioEx 4.0 by clicking on the "Proceed" button.
