In this week's lab, we did the following exercises in the lab manual:

Ex 16.1B, 16.2A, B, C, and D

For each organism, you were required to be able to identify the organism and place it in the appropriate phylum

You also need to understand the main steps in the lifecycle of each phylum

Female pine cone

Phylum: Coniferophyta

This is a slide showing the early female cone at 100x.

Phylum: Coniferophyta

This is a slide showing the archegonium of a female cone, containing eggs.  The picture is at 100x magnification.

Phylum: Coniferophyta

This slide shows an early male cone at 100x.

Phylum: Coniferophyta

This slide shows a staminate cone - it's older than the previous cone, but not mature.  This picture is at 100x.

This slide shows a mature male cone, containing many pollen grains at 100x.

This picture shows a pine pollen grain at 400x.

This slide shows pine pollen grains at 250x.

Model of a flower.  Flowers are only produced by angiosperms (Phylum Anthophyta)
