BIOL3223: On-campus Internship

This
is an internship program for selected students who will perform supervised
work related to biology and/or pedagogy in conjunction with biology
faculty at
Clayton
State
University
. Students will be assigned a grade for this course based on an evaluation by
the faculty supervisor. The types of projects that will be covered in this
course include serving as a teaching assistant in one of the biology laboratory
courses as well as developing teaching materials for use in biology laboratory
or lectures. This course can be used in the biology core as well as in
some of the emphasis areas.
What is required to take this course?

Find a faculty member who is teaching a course that you
would like to assist with.

You
must have completed BIOL1108 and 1108L, both with a grade of C or higher.

You
must obtain approval from the faculty mentor that will supervise your
project.
- Print and complete the Faculty
Sponsor form
in conjunction with your faculty supervisor.
- Faculty Sponsor Form
Have your faculty supervisor sign the completed form, and ask him/her to
have you registered for BIOL3223.
The exact activities you will be required to perform will be determined in
consultation with your supervisor.

Requirements:
- Took BIOL 3250L or 2250L (and earned an “A”)
- Attend at least one lab per week
- Assist students with microscopy, streak-plating, smear preparation,
staining, bacterial growth observations, case studies
- Design one new laboratory lesson

Requirements
- Completed BIOL3650 and 3650L (and
earned a B or higher in both).
- Attend at least one lab per week
- Assist students with dissections and
laboratory exercises
- Help in the design of experiments and
the improvement of laboratory review materials.
